Matt Stasiak of Clarence shared runner-up honors in the junior/senior division with Jake Williams last weekend in a Winternational Junior Series golf tournament at Pinehurst (N.C.) Resort.

Stasiak finished the two-day tournament with a 17-over 158, one stroke behind division winner Chason Trahan of Charlotte, after a closing round 78 on Pinehurst No. 1. Stasiak, who opened with an 80 on Pinehurst No. 2 -- site of this past season's U.S. Open, had a chance to force a playoff but posted a double bogey on the par-3 finishing hole.

Through three events, Stasiak and Williams of Midlothian, Va., are tied atop the points standings with 177.5, according to the Winternational Junior Series Web site ( Williamsville's Evan Baskin-Evans stands 11th in the points race with 75.

The series continues Jan. 7 on Pinehurst's No. 6 course.


BADMINTON: Immaculata Academy in Hamburg seeks a winter varsity badminton coach. The season starts in January. Candidates may call the school at 649-6161.


BASEBALL/SOFTBALL: The Buffalo School of Baseball will hold a three-day instructional clinic, for players 8-13, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday. The cost is $99. There's also a one-day clinic for ages 5-7 (2-5 p.m. Tuesday, $35), and a two-day girls softball clinic (5:30-8 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday, $45). Call the school at 681-9410.


OFFICIATING: The Western New York Chapter of Certified Football Officials will start Monday evening classes in late February for individuals who want to become officials at little league and high school games. See or call Matt Palma at 681-3177.


SNOWSHOEING: A 5-kilometer snowshoe race, which serves as a qualifier for the Empire State Games, will be held at 10 a.m. Jan. 22 at Chestnut Ridge Park in Orchard Park.
