Tadeusz Piekos, owned equipment firm Oct. 14, 1932 -- Dec. 15, 2005

Tadeusz "Ted" Piekos, owner of Outdoor Equipment Distributors in Lockport, died unexpectedly Thursday in Kenmore Mercy Hospital, Town of Tonawanda. He was 73.

Born in Cheshire, Mass., he was a 1950 graduate of Adams High School in Adams, Mass. He was in the Army from 1950 to 1954, stationed mostly in Japan.

Mr. Piekos moved to Connecticut after his military service and worked at Pratt & Whitney until 1956, when he returned to Cheshire and operated Berkshire Power Equipment until 1963.

He joined Sabre Saw Chain Co. in Dalton, Mass., in 1963 and that year married Vicki Burrows of Otis, Mass.

He was transferred to Lewiston in 1966 and became vice president of Herr Manufacturing in the Town of Tonawanda. He later worked for Distributor Imports, and in 1976, he established Outdoor Equipment Distributors, which he operated until his death.

He and his wife moved to Ransomville in 1987.

Mr. Piekos was a member of Wheatfield Post 1451, American Legion.

In addition to his wife, survivors include a daughter, Lauri of Buffalo; four sisters, Emilia Jajko and Sophie Gwozdz, both of Cheshire, Marie Adamcek of Lancaster and Victoria Zabawa of Southampton, Mass.; and two brothers, Henry of Kissimmee, Fla., and Frank of Cheshire.
