Jess W. Brown, a retired milk tester for the Dairy Herd Improvement Association, Ithaca, where he worked for 25 years, died Tuesday in Bertrand Chaffee Hospital, Springville. He was 74.
From 1971 until 1982, the Franklinville native also owned and operated Farmer Brown's Agri-Service. He ran Unique Acres, a Highland beef cattle ranch, throughout his retirement.
A former 4-H leader, he was a member of the American Highland Cattle Association and North East Highland Cattle Association.
Mr. Brown enjoyed playing euchre, traveling and reading Western novels.
He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Ruth G.; three sons, Douglas P. of Perrysburg, Michael L. of Seattle and Peter M. of Zionsville, Pa.; two daughters, Patricia M. of Ithaca and Judy R. Light of Gasport; two sisters, Mabelle M. Case of Little Valley and Lois L. Scrivener of Beeville, Texas; and seven grandchildren.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday in Hills Funeral Chapel, 55 S. Main St. Burial will be in the East Hill Cemetery, Otto.
