Katharine "Kitty" Howard, a retired librarian, died Dec. 2 in Asbury Methodist Village, Gaithersburg, Md. She was 86.
Born Katharine Klein in Lewisburg, Pa., she moved to Buffalo in 1924.
Mrs. Howard graduated from Bennett High School and had a master's degree in library science from the University of Buffalo.
She married Robert C. Howard in Buffalo in 1942. They lived in Buffalo until moving to Gaithersburg in 2001.
Mrs. Howard was a librarian with the Buffalo & Erie County Public Library and the Buffalo Public Schools.
She also had been an active member of the Twentieth Century Club of Buffalo and the Buffalo Canoe Club and was an ardent supporter of the Buffalo Zoo.
Survivors include her husband; two daughters; Mari Howard Cooper of Silver Spring, Md., and Patricia Howard Hart of Ithaca; a sister, Dorothy Arnold of Florida; and two grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held in the spring. Burial was in Forest Hill Cemetery, Fredonia.
