Hawley to get GOP nod on state Assembly race
BATAVIA -- Steven M. Hawley was assured the Republican nomination for the State Assembly when two key county GOP committees in the four-county district endorsed him.
Hawley, who owns a local insurance company, would succeed Charles H. Nesbitt of Albion, who resigned as Assembly minority leader to take a post with the state tax tribunal.
A special election will probably be held in February with Hawley backed by the Genesee and Orleans county Republican Committees. The district includes all of Orleans County, half of Genesee, and small portions of Niagara and Monroe counties.
Nesbitt held the Assembly seat for 13 years, succeeding R. Stephen Hawley, the candidate's father, who served the district for 20 years.
