The hotly contested Delta Sonic Car Wash facility at 1264 Main St. near Barker in Buffalo will have its official ribbon-cutting today. The facility includes a gas station, detail shop, oil change garage, a small grocery store, a Dunkin Donuts and a restaurant.
Mayor Anthony Masiello was scheduled to be on hand at 11 a.m. for the event.
The project had been fought for three years by neighborhood groups concerned about traffic and by preservationists who opposed the demolition of buildings on the site.
"We hope that our renovation will be a catalyst for the redevelopment of Main Street," Bob Klein, executive vice president of Delta Sonic Car Wash, said in a statement.
Started in 1967, Delta Sonic now operates 27 car wash facilities.
