>Man robs M&T Bank on Hertel Avenue

An M&T Bank branch at 1580 Hertel Ave. was held up at about 1:30 p.m. Tuesday by a man claiming to have a gun, police said.

The bandit, described as black, 5-foot-6, 145 pounds and in his 30s, handed a note to a teller stating, "I have a gun, give me 50s, 100s and 20s. No ink."

The robber made off with an undetermined amount of cash and fled on foot north on Parkside Avenue. He had a goatee and was wearing a dark knit hat, dark jacket, red or maroon sweat shirt with a white T-shirt, blue gloves and dark plastic-rimmed glasses. No weapon was displayed, police said.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Major Crimes Unit at 851-4511.

Police, meanwhile, continued their investigation into Monday's robbery of the HSBC branch at 1248 Abbott Road, Lackawanna.

At about 2 p.m., a man described as white, 6 feet tall, 175 pounds, with light hair and a graying goatee, handed an envelope with a note demanding money. He made off with an undetermined amount of cash, Lackawanna police said. No weapon was displayed.

The robber wore blue jeans, tan work boots, a tan jacket, red hat and sunglasses, police said.

Anyone with information in that robbery is asked to contact Lackawanna police at 822-4900.

>Crash on Scajaquada kills Burt driver, 20

Police are investigating a car crash early Tuesday on the Scajaquada Expressway in which a Burt man was killed.

Darren Gietz, 20, was killed shortly after midnight after he lost control of his car on the eastbound Scajaquada, as he was turning off at Delaware Avenue, said Lt. Kevin Barburg of the Accident Investigation Unit.

Gietz's car ran off the road, into a median and struck a sign and a tree. Rescuers extricated him through the back of the crushed vehicle but he could not be saved.

>Two boys at Hutch-Tech held on drug charges

Two juvenile boys were arrested Tuesday afternoon on charges of possessing 27 grams of marijuana at Hutchinson-Central Technical High School, police reported.

A 14-year-old and another juvenile whose age was not available were apprehended at the school at about 1:15 p.m. The marijuana was divided into 25 bags.
