Josephine A. Bakowski Feb. 4, 1914 -- Dec. 11, 2005

Josephine A. "Molly" Bakowski of Cheektowaga, a volunteer at Erie County Medical Center, died Sunday in her son's home in Elma after a battle with cancer. She was 91.

Mrs. Bakowski gave more than 13,000 hours of volunteer service over 20 years at ECMC, working at the information desk, the coffee shop, the skilled nursing facility workshop and the bloodmobile drive.

She was a member of the executive committee of the ECMC Volunteer Board and was a member of the ECMC Retirees Association, where she was in charge of the Sunshine Committee.

Born Josephine Dreja in Buffalo, the daughter of Polish immigrants, she also worked for 15 years as head cashier at Kobacker's department store.

Her husband, Chester, died in 1983.

Surviving are a son, Donald C. of Elma; two sisters, Freda
Stachura of Hamburg and Irene Zurkowski of Orchard Park; a brother, John Dryja of Lancaster; and two grandsons.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday in Corpus Christi Catholic Church, 189 Clark St., after prayers at 9 in Pacer Funeral Home, 2275 George Urban Blvd., Depew. Burial will be in St. Adalbert Cemetery, Lancaster.
