>Illinois firm purchases Eckerd from Benderson
LOCKPORT -- Benderson Development Co. has sold the Eckerd Drugs store at South Transit and Summit streets to an Illinois real estate investment trust for more than $4.6 million. It's one of 22 Eckerd stores in upstate New York Benderson sold to Inland Real Estate Group of Oak Brook, Ill.
Inland spokesman Darryl Cater said the company paid about $90.5 million for the 22 drug stores in the Buffalo, Rochester and Albany metropolitan areas.
Cater said Benderson will retain the vacant land surrounding the store in Lockport. The city Planning Board approved a subdivision plan earlier this year that allowed the sale of the store while Benderson kept the vacant outparcels.
The company's original plan in 2001 called for construction of strip plazas. Benderson officials did not return calls for comment last week on their plans for the property.
