Elenore Hildegard Brown, of Marilla, died Sunday in The Pines nursing home in Machias. She was 77.
Born Elenore Schuelke in Detroit, she spent her childhood back in her parents' native Germany because of the Depression. In 1945, she returned to the United States, studied English and earned a high school diploma at Houghton Academy, formerly part of Houghton College.
Mrs. Brown worked as a histology technician for Western New York Analytical Labs and attended Elma Baptist Church.
Her hobbies included the piano, cross-country skiing, collecting owls, lighthouses and nutcracker figurines, caring for her poodle and rooting for the Sabres.
Her husband, Thomas F. Sr., died in 1987.
Survivors include a son, Thomas F. of Machias; two brothers, Elvin Schuelke of Chicago and Wilfred Schuelke of Detroit; two sisters, Gisela Wagner of Austria and Esther Cunningham of Holland, Mich.; four grandchildren; and a great-granddaughter.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday in Kenneth Howe Funeral Home, 64 Maple St., East Aurora. Burial will be in Marilla Cemetery.
