>Downtown Jubilee store closes after 15 years

BATAVIA -- Jubilee Foods, a downtown supermarket for the past 15 years, closed its doors for the last time Saturday to the dismay of residents of two nearby senior housing apartments.

The store was built in the late 1960s for Montgomery Ward as part of an Urban Renewal project, but the firm left in 1981. City officials say they know of no plans for the 50,000-square-foot building, which is near the center of the business district.

The closing leaves two supermarkets, Martin's and Aldi's, at opposite ends of the city.
