A memorial Mass for David M. Greco, a leader in the fight against heart disease and in Scouting, will be offered at 11 a.m. Saturday in St. Adalbert Basilica, 130 Kosciuszko St. Burial will be in St. Matthew's Cemetery, West Seneca.
Mr. Greco, of Cheektowaga, died Sept. 10 in Mercy Hospital, after a three-year battle against cancer. He was 51.
Born in Buffalo, he graduated from Erie Community College and for the last 10 years was a salesman for Lehigh safety boots.
After heart surgery in 1980, he joined the Buffalo Chapter of Mended Hearts and became one of its most dedicated members, serving as secretary, vice president and president. He often visited patients in Buffalo General Hospital and was a past chapter liaison to the American Heart Association.
A life member of Mended Hearts, Mr. Greco organized regional conferences, workshops and seminars and led chapter fund-raising events. He was a delegate to several national conventions, helped start satellite chapters and helped establish the Candace Starkweather Memorial Scholarship.
Also long active in Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts, he held numerous district leadership positions, was a member of the Catholic Committee for Scouting and volunteered at camps. He was a member of the Order of the Arrow, earned the Silver Beaver Award and completed Wood Badge training. Each September, he attended the Scout leaders' annual Gilwell Reunion in Ontario.
Survivors include a daughter, Renee of West Seneca; a son, Anthony of West Seneca; his mother, Ruth Giambra of Cheektowaga; two brothers, Michael Giambra of Allentown, Pa., and Robert Giambra of West Seneca; and his companion, Wendy Miller of Springville.
