A memorial service for the Rev. Maggie Y. Boyd, who came from a family of preachers, will be at 3 p.m. Saturday in St. Luke African Methodist Episcopal Zion Church, 314 E. Ferry St. Her ashes will be buried in her hometown of Chester, S.C.
Pastor Boyd died Sunday in Sisters Hospital after a brief illness. She was 57.
Born in Chester, she earned a bachelor's degree at Winthrop University in South Carolina and her master's degree at Colgate Rochester Crozer Divinity School.
Pastor Boyd moved to Buffalo in 1997 and became pastor of Metropolitan United Methodist Church on Best Street, a position she held at the time of her death.
She was a member of Zeta Phi Beta sorority.
Survivors include two sons, Samuel and Cambridge, both of Rochester; her father, the Rev. James W. Sr. of Chester; three sisters, the Rev. Betty B. Mackey of Rochester, the Rev. Vivian Boyd Presley of Rock Hill, S.C., and
Trina of Buffalo; five brothers, Reginald of Richburg, S.C., and the Rev. James W. Jr., the Rev. Heyward A., John A. and Keith M., all of Chester; and three grandchildren.
