Melvin G. Shields, longtime plumber April 14, 1942 -- Sept. 27, 2005

Melvin G. "Shipwreck" Shields, a longtime plumber, died Tuesday in Lake Shore Hospital, Irving, after a brief illness. He was 63.

A native of Clarksburg, Pa., Mr. Shields was a self-employed plumber. He previously worked for Irving Plumbing.

He attended Christ Chapel Wesleyan Church in Silver Creek.

Survivors include two sons, Edward and Melvin G. Jr., both of Buffalo; two daughters, Regina Robertson of Castile and Bonnie Caryl of Gainesville; five sisters, Harriet Yatsko of Clymer, Sylvia Davis of Jamestown, Faith DeLong of Farnham, Vicky Grant of New Lebanon, Ohio, and Evelyn Sievert of Fredonia; a brother, Benjamin F. of Olean; his former wife, Roberta Panfil of Arcade; two grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday in Hole-Parker Funeral Chapel, 160 Central Ave., Silver Creek. Burial will be in Hanover Center Cemetery.
