Irene R. Scarpace, of Buffalo, died Monday in Kenmore Mercy Hospital, Town of Tonawanda, after a long battle with lung cancer. She was 71.
Born Irene Aschieri in Buffalo, she attended East High School.
She was a clerk in the credit department of Flint & Kent department store before marrying and raising two children.
Mrs. Scarpace was an artist and storyteller and loved cats.
She is survived by her husband of 50 years, Joseph; a daughter, Ramona of Plymouth, Minn.; a son, Anthony of Las Vegas; and two brothers, Joseph Aschieri and John Aschieri, both of Buffalo.
Prayers will be said at 10 a.m. Friday in D. Lawrence Ginnane Funeral Home, 3215 Delaware Ave., Kenmore, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 in St. Paul Catholic Church, Delaware Avenue and Victoria Boulevard, Kenmore. Burial will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery, Cheektowaga.
