> Gators chew on win

Senior Sarah Sciarrino won the 50-yard freestyle, the 100 backstroke and was a member of the victorious 200 medley relay team as Nardin defeated Buffalo Seminary, 58-36, in the Monsignor Martin Association season-opening swim meet for both schools.

Buffalo Seminary senior Christa Gorenslo set a league record in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1 minute, 10.55 seconds.

Nardin also received standout performances from junior Natalie Lewis, who won the 100 free and anchored all three winning relay teams, and junior Jordan Deren, who won the 200 and 500 freestyles and was on the winning 400 free relay team. The Gators went undefeated last season and won the league title, while Buffalo Seminary was the runnerup.

"The whole league is improved from last year," Buffalo Seminary coach Ed Magner said. "I think everyone is better. Nardin's a little step above, but we had it pretty easy for second place last year. I don't think it will that easy this year."
