ENVIRONMENTAL PATRIOTISM: Author, professor and green building expert David Orr will give a free lecture, "Earth in Mind: Patriotism, Politics and the Environment in an Age of Terror," at 8 p.m. Wednesday in Slee Hall on the University at Buffalo's North Campus. Orr places the environmental crisis in the context of our energy addiction, climate change, the war on terror and the need for a new kind of patriotism that respects the earth. BOOK DISCUSSION: Hilbert College's Great Books Discussion Group opens its 2005-06 season Thursday with a session devoted to "Pearl," written by Mary Gordon.

The book, which explores a mother's effort to come to grips with her daughter's public act of martyrdom, will be discussed at 5:30 p.m. in 178 Bogel Hall on the college's campus, 5200 South Park Ave., Hamburg.

SENIOR FORUM: The 2005 Senior Citizens Forum will be held from 10 a.m. to noon Friday in the Cheektowaga Senior Citizens Center. The joint meeting will include two representatives from each of the senior citizen groups in Cheektowaga, Senior Citizens Foundation members, government officials, staff members, department heads and members of the center. HARVEST FESTIVAL: The Buffalo Bills will present the fifth annual harvest festival, a celebration of Hospice friends and family, beginning at 6 p.m. Friday in Adam's Mark Grand Ballroom.
