Judith A. Giannicchi, an elementary school teacher and assistant principal, died Thursday in Mercy Hospital after a short illness. She was 58.
Born in Lackawanna, she graduated from Lackawanna High School.
Miss Giannicchi received her bachelor's degree in elementary education from the University at Buffalo in 1968, and that fall began teaching at St. Martin of Tours School, where she was a faculty member for 37 years before recently falling ill.
She taught fourth grade for most of her career, and for the past decade had also been assistant principal. In addition, she taught religion classes after school and was a teachers union representative.
A lifelong member of St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Lackawanna, she loved to read, shop and travel.
Survivors include her mother, Rose of Lackawanna; and two brothers, Gerald of West Seneca and Richard of Blasdell.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10 a.m. Monday in St. Anthony's Church, 306 Ingham Ave., Lackawanna. Entombment will be in Holy Cross Cemetery, Lackawanna.
