Area firm awarded contract

The Transportation Security Administration has awarded a $3.16 million contract to General Dynamics Advanced Information Systems of Buffalo for the development of a pilot project involving the tracking of trucks carrying hazardous materials.

Under the contract, General Dynamics will develop a prototype truck tracking center that will be able to follow trucks carrying hazardous materials and generate alerts regarding them.

The General Dynamics system will be one of three that the Transportation Security Administration will evaluate before deciding on a national truck-tracking system.

Sen. Charles E. Schumer, D-N.Y., announced the award.
