Niagara men to make three TV appearances

Niagara University, celebrating its 100th season of men's basketball on Monteagle Ridge, has announced its 2005-06 schedule.

The first of three appearances on television is Jan. 17 when the Purple Eagles meet longtime rival Canisius. The Taps Gallagher Center will host Niagara's second televised game Jan. 27 against Iona. The last regularly scheduled television game is on MAAC-TV at Marist Feb. 23.

Niagara opens the MAAC portion of its schedule with home contests versus Siena on Dec. 9 and Saint Peter's on Dec. 11.

The Purple Eagles swing into full gear with their MAAC schedule with games at Loyola on Jan. 6 and at Iona on Jan. 8.

Niagara finishes its regular season on the road for a third consecutive year when it travels to Marist (Feb. 23) and Siena (Feb. 25).

In women's basketball, 11 games at the Gallagher Center highlight the 2005-06 Niagara schedule announced by 11th-year head coach Bill Agronin.

The Purple Eagles open their 16th MAAC season when they travel to Fairfield, Conn., and Riverdale, to take on the Stags (Dec. 9) and the Lady Jaspers (Dec. 11). The regular season begins in the St. Bonaventure Shootout Nov. 19-20 at Elmira First Arena.

Niagara's conference home opener will be Jan. 5 when it hosts Marist. Siena is also in town for the weekend (Jan. 7).

Canisius and head coach Terry Zeh released the full 2005-06 schedule, with the season set to begin Nov. 18 at cross-town rival Buffalo. The schedule features a game at nationally-ranked Ohio State and four home non-conference games, including Syracuse (Dec. 4).

The Griffs return all five starters and 12 letter winners from last season's MAAC Tournament champions. After opening the season at Buffalo for the second time in three years, the Griffs host Cornell Nov. 23, in their home opener. The women open a basketball doubleheader with the men in the Koessler Athletic Center Nov. 30, when the Griffs host Boston University.
