Dedication conducted for senior apartments
The newly opened senior citizen apartments built by the American Hellenic Educational Progressive Association's National Housing Corp. have a waiting list.
The three-story building off French Road in Cheektowaga was dedicated Wednesday. It contains 50 one-bedroom apartments, a community room, library, craft room, exercise room, computer room and laundry.
Land acquisition and building construction were financed through a capital advance grant from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development and a subsidy through HSBC Bank from the privately funded Affordable Housing Program of the Federal Home Loan Bank of New York.
It was built and is administered by the organization's Buffalo Housing Development, a not-for-profit corporation. Rental income and HUD subsidies cover the cost of operating and maintaining the facility.
