Event to aid evacuees

The Seneca Allegany Casino will hold a barbecue from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday to raise money for Hurricane Katrina victims. The casino, at 777 Seneca Allegany Blvd., Salamanca, made a $5,000 contribution earlier this month to the Red Cross, and employees collected goods to send to the Gulf Coast.

A benefit for Hurricane Katrina victims Leland and Karen Hales and their two daughters will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday in the George F. Lamm Post, American Legion, Grove, 962 Wehrle Drive, Amherst. The $15 will include pizza and wings. The event also will feature a cash bar, silent bid auction and raffles to help support the Western New York natives. Call 837-3582.

Evans Township Lions Club will collect items for hurricane victims Oct. 1.

No clothing will be accepted. Donors should bring diapers, baby formula and wipes, nonperishable food, bottled water and drinks, diabetic snacks and sugar-free foods,as well as such tools as hammers, saws, tape measures and crowbars.

The collection will be held from noon to 5 p.m. at 8484 Erie Road, between Bennett and Beach roads, in Evans. Monetary donations can be dropped off until Oct. 1 at any Evans National Bank branch or mailed to Evans Township Lions Club, P.O. Box 342, Angola, NY 14006. Checks should be made payable to Evans Township Lions Club Inc./Hurricane Relief.
