Max Kianoff, a security guard at SKW Corp. and World War II Navy veteran, died Saturday in Kindred Hospital, Tampa, Fla., after a brief illness. He was 82.
Born in Niagara Falls, Mr. Kianoff graduated from Niagara Falls High School and served in the Navy during World War II as a pharmacist's mate in the Asiatic and Pacific theaters.
He owned and operated Kianoff's Grocery Store on Niagara Avenue and Hyde Park Boulevard for 10 years before working as a security guard at SKW Corp. for 18 years. He retired in 1984.
He was a member of Temple Beth Israel and was a volunteer for Meals on Wheels for 26 years.
He married Jeanette Zavaloff in 1953. She died in 1998.
Mr. Kianoff moved to Florida in January to be near his children.
Survivors include a son, Arthur of Hollywood, Fla.; a daughter, Sandra Hampton of Riverview, Fla.; a sister, Sylvia Shain of New Jersey; and a granddaughter.
Services were today in Temple Beth Israel. Burial was in Beth Israel Cemetery, Lewiston.
