Excell Cooley, a retired Bethlehem Steel Corp. worker, died Sunday in Erie County Medical Center after a brief illness. He was 82.
Born in Hattiesburg, Miss., Mr. Cooley graduated from Oak Park High School there. He was a resident of New Orleans and also lived in Erie, Pa., in the 1950s before moving to Buffalo in 1953.
From 1953 until his retirement in 1970, Mr. Cooley was a steelworker at Bethlehem Steel.
Surviving are his wife of 55 years, the former Hattie Mae Stuart; seven daughters, Glorydene Pullium of Erie and Jeannette Rippy, Vivian, Salina Lee, Brenda White, Evelyn and Ramona Andrews, all of Buffalo; seven sons, James Dale of Erie, Jerry of Florida and Sylvester, David, Kelly Ray, Steve and Larry, all of Buffalo; a sister, Jeannette Egana of Erie; 67 grandchildren; and 38 great-grandchildren.
Services will be at noon Friday in Providence Memorial Chapel, 1275 Sycamore St. Burial will be in St. Matthew's Cemetery, West Seneca.
