Charlotte Marie Duffey, of West Seneca, died Friday in St. Francis Home of Williamsville after a lengthy illness. She was 82.
Born Charlotte Marie O'Brien in Buffalo, she was a graduate of St. Agatha's School and Mount Mercy Academy. She was an operator for New York Telephone and later worked as a catalog representative for Sears, Roebuck & Co.
Mrs. Duffey was dedicated to St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church, where she was the parish historian, a Eucharistic minister and choir member. She was named Religious Educator of the Year in 1987. In her later years, she made pilgrimages to Rome and Medjugorje, Yugoslavia.
She also was a member of the Bishop Timon Mothers Club and Mount Mercy Academy Alumni Association, as well as a founding member of the WWW sorority.
In her youth, Mrs. Duffey was a Girl Scout and contributed stories and poetry to The Buffalo Evening News "Merry Times Club" under the pen name Corky O'Brien.
Survivors include her husband of 59 years, Donald J.; five sons, Donald Jr. of Cheektowaga, Roger of Erie, Pa., James of West Seneca, Eugene of Angola and Joseph of Westerville, Ohio; a daughter,
Regina Moravek of Ithaca; a brother, Neil O'Brien of Hamburg; four sisters, Mary Lou
O'Brien of Hamburg, Winifred
O'Brien and Eugenie Leary, both of Buffalo, and Cecilia Strzempka of West Seneca; 14 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday in St. Catherine of Siena Church, 4920 Seneca St., West Seneca, after prayers at 9 in Curtin Funeral Home, 1340 Union Road, West Seneca. Burial will be in Holy Cross Cemetery, Lackawanna.
