A memorial service for the Rev. Edward H. Spindler was held Sunday in St. Peter's United Church of Christ, West Seneca. Burial was in St. John Cemetery, Cheektowaga.
Mr. Spindler died June 27 in a Pleasant Hills, Tenn., nursing home. He was 96.
Born in St. Louis, he earned a bachelor's degree from Elmhurst College in Illinois and a divinity degree from Eden Theological Seminary in Missouri.
He was ordained in 1937 and moved to the Buffalo area in 1946, serving as director of Boys Work at the Downtown YMCA from 1946 to 1950. He served as associate pastor at St. Paul and St. Mark's United Church of Christ in Buffalo from 1950 to 1952, then was pastor of St. Peter's United Church of Christ in West Seneca from 1953 to 1972.
Mr. Spindler was made pastor emeritus of St. Peter's in 1983, when he moved to Tennessee.
His wife of 50 years, Alma Wild Spindler, died in 1998.
