Lorena B. "Cricket" Hare, a retired parole officer from Buffalo, died Tuesday in her home in DeLand, Fla. after a lengthy illness. She was 89.
Born Lorena Bell in Point Pleasant, W.Va., she graduated from West Virginia University.
In the 1940s, Mrs. Hare came to Western New York, where she was a probation officer in Niagara Falls. By the 1960s, she worked as a state parole officer and lived in Buffalo for many years. She retired in 1989 and moved to DeLand.
Mrs. Hare was a longtime member and past president of the League of Women Voters in Erie County.
She was active while in Florida, where she was a member of the DeLand Museum of Art Guild, the Historical Society, the Women's Club of DeLand and several bridge clubs. She was a member of the Lake Beresford Yacht Club and the American Association of University Women.
Mrs. Hare is survived by a daughter, Cherie Bell Hare of DeLand.
A private service will be scheduled in West Virginia.
