The University at Buffalo School of Management and its Alumni Association named Carl J. Montante Niagara Frontier Executive of the Year. Montante, president and managing director of Uniland Development Co., is being honored for his career-based executive success, civic leadership and personal integrity. Other honorees include: Margaret E. Grayson, president of AEP Government Solutions Group of Rockville, Mass., Industry Leadership (cyber security); Michael D. Deaken, president of Valkro Inc. and Tonawanda Valve, Service to the School, and John F. Dunbar, president of Strategic Investments and Holdings, Entrepreneurship Award. The awards will be presented at the 56th Annual School of Management Awards Banquet on Nov. 2.

The law firm of Nixon Peabody named Stephen Newman partner. A member of the firm's Private Clients Group in Buffalo since February 2005, Newman also has maintained a legal practice in New York City and Palm Beach County.

The New York State Funeral Directors Association honored Anthony P. Amigone Sr. with the Edward J. Garrity Award recently in recognition of his integrity, strength of conviction and dedication to the NYSFDA and all funeral service throughout the state. Amigone is chairman of the board of the Amigone Funeral Homes Inc.

The Buffalo office of Greenman-Pedersen, an engineering, planning, surveying and construction inspection firm, named Glenn Blake senior transportation engineer and Christopher M. Sargeant, civil engineer. Also, the firm named Jason Knight and Kenneth C. Zollitsch associate planners and Thomas J. Carleton survey project manager.

The certified public accounting firm of Buffamante Whipple Buttafaro of Olean and Jamestown named Ryanne John corporate project team and technical manager. John is a graduate of Alfred University.

Cannon Design, an architectural, engineering and planning firm, named Michael A. Mistriner principal. With the firm for more than 20 years, Mistriner was involved in the award-winning Montante Cultural Center project for Canisius College. Currently, he is project principal for Allegheny College student housing and St. Bonaventure University Richter Recreation Center projects. He is a graduate of the University at Buffalo.

Polymer Conversions, a contract manufacturer of injection molded tight tolerance plastic parts in Orchard Park, named Dennis Crowley quality engineer. Crowley was formerly a quality assurance manager with Isochem Inc. in Lockport. Also, the company named Nick Giftos process technician.

The Buffalo office of Underberg and Kessler named George S. Van Nest and R. Scott DeLuca senior counsels. Previously a partner at Duke, Holzman, Yeaeger and Photiadis, Van Nest is with the law firm's Litigation Department and Environmental Practice Group. DeLuca, with the law firm's Litigation Department and Employment Law Practice Group, previously was a senior associate at Damon and Morey.
