Rand Capital has invested an additional $436,000 in G-Tec Natural Gas Systems in Buffalo and Topps Meat Co. in Elizabeth, N.J., the Buffalo venture capital company announced.
Rand, which invested $259,000 in Topps in April 2003, made the most recent investment through a larger round of fund-raising that helped Topps acquire J&B Foods Corp. in Coal Valley, Ill., to expand its presence in the Midwest.
Topps makes pre-formed frozen hamburgers, as well as other meat products.
The additional investment in G-Tec will help the company develop new uses and identify markets for its proprietary line of natural gas pressure boosters. Rand first invested $325,000 in G-Tec in August 1999.
