Assemblyman hopeful about Empire Zones

WARSAW -- Assemblyman Daniel J. Burling this week said he is hopeful that Wyoming and Livingston counties will be able to obtain state Empire Zones.

The Warsaw Republican said he will lobby state officials in Albany this week for the designations, which are meant to provide economic incentives to new or existing businesses.

Burling addressed the Wyoming County Board of Supervisors on Tuesday. The board honored Burling for his years of service in the Marine Corps and the Army Reserve during the Vietnam War era.

The board scheduled a public hearing on a proposal for Wyoming County to seek Empire Zones for 11 a.m. Sept. 27 in the Wyoming County Government Center. In another matter, supervisors approved the extension of an extra 1 percent in the county sales until 2007, keeping the rate at 8 percent.
