Ethel K. Hughes, a Town of Tonawanda homemaker, died Wednesday after a short illness. She was 90.
Born in Buffalo, the former Ethel Burgess graduated from Hutchinson-Central High School and Bryant & Stratton Business Institute.
She was a member of Church of the Ascension Episcopal Church until she moved to the Town of Tonawanda in the late 1940s and joined St. Bartholomew's Episcopal Church.
Mrs. Hughes was past matron of Highland Park Chapter, Order of the Eastern Star, and later, Betsy Ross-Lavant Chapter 695, Order of the Eastern Star. She also was past queen of Athor Temple 19, Daughters of the Nile.
Her husband of 65 years, John, died in 2002. Survivors include two daughters, Ethelmae Clothier of the City of Tonawanda and Marilyn Reinacher of Long Valley, N.J.; two sons, John Jr. of San Jose, Calif., and Robert of Cheektowaga; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday in St. Bartholomew's Church, 1064 Brighton Road, Town of Tonawanda. Burial will be in Forest Lawn.
