This weekend, the curtain doesn't go up only for theater. It's Curtain Up! time for opera, too. Opera Buffs, a fervent local band of opera lovers, are offering their own celebration, open to the public, at 2 p.m. Sunday in the Mary Seaton Room at Kleinhans Music Hall.
The afternoon features the popular mezzo soprano Quinn Patrick as well as several outstanding student singers from Fredonia State College. Patrick, who is on the faculty there, has organized a colorful program with arias by Mozart, Rossini, Smetana, Gounod, Massenet and Handel. Joining her in performance will be three sopranos, Johanna Moffitt, Kristen Norwark and Lori Johnson; and two promising young baritones, Geordie Alexander and Joseph Flaxman.
Admission is $20 and includes parking, punch, snacks and dessert, all catered by Oliver's. For reservations, call Andrea Pope at 632-6852.
