The Polish Heritage Dancers of Western New York is looking for new members for its ninth season. The group teaches Polish folk dances, songs and traditions and performs throughout the area at festivals, parades, nursing homes, assisted living centers and more. Costumes are provided. Boys and men are especially needed to help balance the group. A series of mandatory seminars for arts and community organizations seeking state funding for programs and projects has been scheduled by the Arts Council in Buffalo & Erie County, which is offering funding through its Decentralization Program. Sessions will be held from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Monday in Holland Town Hall, 47 Pearl St., Holland; 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday in the Williamsville Public Library, 5571 Main St., Williamsville; 5:30 to 7 p.m. Thursday in Blossom Gardens Friends School, 13961 Sisson Highway, Collins; 2 to 3:30 p.m. next Friday in the West Side Community Services Center, 161 Vermont St.; 2 to 3:30 p.m. Sept. 26 at the Lackawanna Public Library, 560 Ridge Road, Lackawanna; and 5:30 to 7 p.m. Sept. 29 in the Grand Island Memorial Library, 1715 Bedell Road, Grand Island. TNT Productions will hold auditions for the musical "Grease" from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Monday in the Lancaster Opera House, 21 Central Ave., Lancaster. The Amherst Players will hold open auditions for "A Tuna Christmas" at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday in the Harlem Road Community Center, 4255 Harlem Road, Snyder. The production will run from Nov. 11 to 13 at the Harlem Road Community Center. Required are five males and six females to handle two roles each. Some roles will include singing. Buffalo United Artists announces auditions for male performers for its Western New York premiere production of "Naked Boys Singing" from 6 to 9 p.m. Sept. 26. Auditions are by appointment only; call 491-3998 to schedule an appointment. Auditioners must be at least 18 years of age and are asked to bring sheet music for one song. An accompanist will be provided. Minorities are strongly encouraged to attend.

Amateur photographers are invited to capture the unique beauty of the Buffalo and Erie County Botanical Gardens with their cameras and enter the 2005 Botanical Gardens Photography Contest. Photos may be black and white or color and must be taken between Jan. 1 and Oct. 31, 2005. Photos must include subjects at the Botanical Gardens, either inside the conservatory or on the exterior grounds. Photos may be no smaller than 5-by-7 and no larger than 8-by-10 and must be submitted unmounted with a sticker on the back with the photographer's name, address, phone number and e-mail. There is an $8 entry fee per photo for nonmembers; current Botanical Gardens members may enter one photo without fee and other photos have a $5 per photo fee. First, second and third place prizes will be awarded in the Flora, Architecture and Human Interest categories. All entries (with fees) must be received at the Botanical Gardens (2655 South Park Ave., Buffalo, 14218) with the entry fee no later than Nov. 6.
