Ruth H. Geiger, teacher, philanthropist July 14, 1920 -- Sept. 8, 2005

A memorial service for Ruth H. Geiger, a philanthropist and former teacher, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 1080 Main St.

Miss Geiger died Sept. 8 in Kenmore Mercy Hospital, Town of Tonawanda, after a brief illness. She was 85.

Born in Buffalo, she was a graduate of the University of Buffalo and Wellesley College. She worked in the Kenmore-Town of Tonawanda School District for several years, teaching English at Hoover Middle School.

A resident of the Town of Tonawanda, Miss Geiger had a summer home in Thunder Bay, Ont.

She was a member of Alpha Gamma Delta sorority. Her interests included reading and music, and she traveled extensively in Europe.

A cousin of the late benefactor Margaret L. Wendt, Miss Geiger also contributed to Western New York's charities, arts and cultural organizations.
