James J. Rainey, a retired 40-year production worker for Fedco Automotive Components and a former local union official, died Monday in his Kenmore home after a brief illness. He was 68.
A native of Buffalo, he attended local schools.
Mr. Rainey served in the Army from 1954 to 1956, including duty in Germany for much of that time.
He retired from Fedco in 1999. He also had been District 4 treasurer for the United Steelworkers of America.
Mr. Rainey was a member of the North Buffalo Senior Club.
Surviving are his wife of 47 years, Carol Lepsch Rainey; two daughters, Lynne Diebold of Amherst and Cindy Bieber of the Town of Tonawanda; a son, James of the City of Tonawanda; three sisters, Patricia Kennedy of Buffalo, Mary of Buffalo and Marjorie Boneberg of Lockport; a brother, Vincent of Buffalo; and eight grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 9:15 Friday in St. Paul Catholic Church, 33 Victoria Blvd., Kenmore, after prayers at 8:15 in Perna-Pellegrino Funeral Home, 1306 Hertel Ave.
