Irene J. Glab of Cheektowaga, active in veterans organizations, died Sunday in the Center for Hospice & Palliative Care, Cheektowaga, after a long battle with cancer. She was 77.
Born Irene Jurkiewicz in Buffalo, she was the mother of nine. She was a production worker at Scott Aviation for more than 20 years, retiring in 1993.
Mrs. Glab was a life member of the Ladies Auxiliary of Pvt. Leonard J. Post Post 6251, Veterans of Foreign Wars.
She was deputy representative and past president of the VFW Auxiliary for more than five years and was a 3,000-hour volunteer at Buffalo Veterans Affairs Medical Center.
She also was active in the Combat Veterans Association, participating in memorial services, fund-raisers and parades.
Mrs. Glab was a member of St. Bernard Catholic Church.
Her husband, Walter F. Sr., died in 1986.
Survivors include five daughters, Kathleen Grabowski, Patricia Braun, Alexandra "Sandy" Wegrzyn and Elaine "Bonnie" LaPrell, all of Buffalo, and Diane Korbel of Elma; three sons, Robert of Buffalo, Paul of Cheektowaga and Christopher of Elma; a sister, Stella Ogiela of Cheektowaga; 23 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 9:30 a.m. Thursday in St. Bernard Church, 1990 Clinton St. at South Ogden Street. Burial will be in St. Matthew's Cemetery, West Seneca.
