Alleged attempt to steal vehicle sends two to jail

CASSADAGA -- Chautauqua County sheriff's deputies said they arrested two teenagers Sunday for allegedly attempting to steal a vehicle.

Christopher Flores, 17, of West Fourth Street, Jamestown, and Bryant Moss, 18, of Hamlin Street, Buffalo, also are accused of stealing items from a Kwik Fill station, change and small items from other vehicles.

Deputies said they were alerted to the crime at about 7:30 a.m., when an employee of the gas station reported two suspicious males trying to enter parked cars across the street.

Flores was charged with criminal possession of stolen property and criminal mischief, and Moss with petit larceny, according to authorities, who said both suspects were sent to the county jail.

Hamburg woman faces DWI count in Sheridan

SHERIDAN -- A Hamburg woman was charged with driving while intoxicated early Sunday after police said her car hit another vehicle and she tried to blame the accident on another person.

Chautauqua County sheriff's deputies were on their way to the scene just after 3 a.m. when they spotted the vehicle traveling along Routes 5 & 20 in Hanover.

When deputies pulled the vehicle over, they found Crystal Smales, 22, of Mount Vernon Boulevard, at the wheel. She initially told police that another person had been driving at the time of the accident, but deputies said they believed Smales was the driver.

2 Jamestown teens held in bait shop break-in

JAMESTOWN -- Two local teens have been charged in connection with a break-in Sunday.

Andrew Kiendal, 17, of West Firth Street, Jamestown, and a 16-year-old male from Dewittville were charged with burglary, possession of stolen property, resisting arrest, petit larceny and criminal mischief.

Police responded to a call to Al's Bait Shop at the corner of Jones Street and Gifford Avenue about a burglary in progress at 4:18 a.m. Sunday.

When officers arrived, they saw two people running from the scene toward Livingston Avenue. The two suspects were found hiding behind two houses along Lakin and Catlin avenues.

Kiendal and the 16-year-old, whose name was not released, were being held without bail pending arraignment.
