A Buffalo tennis team captained by former St. Bonaventure player Jennifer Schneider won the 9.0 mixed doubles title last weekend at the North Atlantic Regionals in Princeton, N.J.

At the North Atlantics, the highest competition for mixed doubles teams from this region, the USTA's Eastern Region champions went 3-0, winning eight of nine sets.

In 9.0 mixed doubles, the highest level, the combined rankings of the partners cannot exceed 9.0. The players on the team and their rankings are: 4.5, Mark Szafnicki; 4.5, Cristen Kessler; 5.0, Carolyn McGrath; 5.0, Jennifer Schneider; 4.5, Andrew Cohn; 4.5, Kristin Janese; 4.0, Doren Goldstone; 4.0, Russell Reinagel; 5.0, Kristen Ortman; 4.5, Gary Schutrum; 4.0, Jeff Gangi; 4.5, Matthew H. Porter.

The Western Super Senior (60-over) 4.0 team of captain Jay Sadkowski, Gary Solomon, Phil Celnicker, Jon Michols, Pat Hudak and Charlie Garfinkel won the sectional championship last weekend at Plainfield, N.J., and qualified for the nationals in Palm Springs, Calif., in October.


The Grand Niagara Midget Minor 16-under hockey team won the Silver Stick Regional Tournament in Philadelphia. The Purple Eagles beat the Hudson Valley Polar Bears, 3-1, to finish the tournament 6-0. Among the team's leading scorers were Mark DeGiulio (Lew-Port), Scott Mosher (Kenmore West) and Matt Bly (Kenmore East).


OFFICIATING: The Western New York Board for Women's Basketball will offer an instructional clinic for new officials beginning Sept. 27. Contact Ken-Ton Continuing Education at 874-8500 to register.
