Hazel Stewart, retired teacher April 5, 1918 -- Sept. 8, 2005

A service for Hazel M. "Bonnie" Stewart, a retired English teacher, was held today in St. Mark's Episcopal Church, Orchard Park. Burial was in the church columbarium.

Mrs. Stewart died Thursday in Mercy Hospital after suffering a heart attack. She was 87.

Born Hazel Bonnell in Geneva, she earned bachelor's and master's degrees from Buffalo State Teachers College. She taught in Orchard Park schools from 1969 until retiring in 1984.

Mrs. Stewart was a member of Friends of the Orchard Park Public Library and the Altar Guild and choir of St. Mark's Church. She was a docent for the Orchard Park Historical Society.

Her husband, Edward J., died in 1987.

Survivors include a daughter, Cathleen A. Mooney of Patterson; two sons, Andrew J. of Toronto and Donald M. of Gansevoort; a sister, Helen Ventura of Geneva; and four grandchildren.
