John H. Bishop, a former manager of the Niagara University bookstore, died Thursday in Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center after a short illness. He was 81.
Mr. Bishop was born in Niagara Falls. He served in the Army in the Pacific Theater during World War II and reached the rank of second lieutenant.
He worked 14 years at Carborundum Co. and then joined Niagara University, where he managed the bookstore for 14 years.
A sports car enthusiast, Mr. Bishop sometimes drove in races. He was a member of the St. Catharines Motor Car Club and the Miata Club.
He also built models, and was a member of the Niagara Frontier Chapter of the International Plastic Modelers Society. Some of his work has been displayed in the Niagara Aerospace Museum. He volunteered for Meals on Wheels for many years.
He is survived by his longtime companion, Jean McGraw of Lewiston.
Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Monday in Rhoney Funeral Home, Cayuga and South Ninth streets, Lewiston.
