Patriot League first-team lacrosse all-stars Jim Wagner (Grand Island) and Chris Pieczonka (Hamburg) did what they do best Friday, helping Army and Navy advance to Sunday's conference championship game.
Wagner scored four goals, giving him 39 for the season, as No. 9 Army (11-3) scored a 9-8 overtime win over No. 14 Bucknell. The defeat may have been the final game in the 38-year coaching career of Youngstown native Sid Jamieson, who has a 242-232 record. He will retire after this season and his Bison is on the bubble for an NCAA bid.
Pieczonka won nine of 15 faceoffs as No. 6 Navy (10-3) beat Lehigh (9-5), 10-6.
Elsewhere, defenseman Nick O'Hara (Orchard Park) scooped five ground balls for No. 2 Duke (14-1) in its 13-11 win over North Carolina (5-8) in the Atlantic Coast Conference semifinals at Baltimore.
Santa Anita Derby runner-up General John B will miss the Kentucky Derby because of a strained tendon under his left front knee, trainer Roger Stein said.
The northern California group Sausalito Challenge couldn't finalize a sponsorship deal by Friday's entry deadline for the 2007 America's Cup, leaving just one U.S.-based syndicate to compete for the oldest trophy in international sports.
