A 9-year-old boy and his 3-year-old sister were found stabbed to death in their home, and authorities were questioning the parents Thursday after finding several knives they believe were the murder weapons, police said.
The children's mother was in the home Wednesday night when the children -- Christian and Gracie Vasilev -- were attacked, Lt. Rich Russo said. He said her husband arrived later and called 911.
Russo said authorities were holding Nikolai Vasilev, 36, and his 34-year-old wife, Tonya, for questioning but added: "We're not viewing them the same way."
The stabbings came five years after the couple's 3-month-old daughter died in a fire at an Elk Grove Village townhouse where the family then lived. The cause of the 2000 fire remains undetermined, said Elk Grove Village Police Deputy Chief Larry Hammar.
