Two suspected shoplifters from Cattaraugus County were arrested early Tuesday after they were found in the Springville area, according to Erie County sheriff's deputies.
Employees of the Wal-Mart store on South Cascade Drive in Springville called deputies to report two people behaving suspiciously as they left the store. Deputies said the area surrounding the store was searched and local police agencies were given the description of a car seen leaving the parking lot at about the time.
At about 3:15 a.m. one of the deputies found a young woman hiding near the side of Scoby Hill Road in Concord -- two miles from the store, authorities said. A young man also was found in the area.
Deputies said an estimated $900 worth of property, mostly compact discs and digital video discs, was found on the suspects.
The 18-year-old woman from Salamanca and 17-year-old male from Little Valley were charged with petit larceny, criminal possession of stolen property and conspiracy, deputies said. The woman also was charged with false impersonation after she allegedly gave deputies a false name.
Deputies withheld the names of both, pending confirmation of their identities. The two were sent to the county holding center, pending arraignment in Springville Village Court.
