Elizabeth M. "Betty" Schweizer, a former Buffalo resident who operated a modeling and finishing school, died Sunday in her Bradford home after a brief illness. She was 79.
Born Elizabeth Roarke in Ovid, she graduated from Nardin Academy and attended Buffalo State College. She owned and operated VerBet Modeling Agency and Finishing School for a couple of years in the late 1940s.
She and her husband moved to Philadelphia for a few years in the early 1950s before returning to Buffalo and eventually settling in Bradford in 1964.
Mrs. Schweizer was a member of St. Bernard's Catholic Church, the Penn Hills Golf Association, the Women's Literary Club and the Tuesday Bridge Club and was a volunteer at Bradford Regional Medical Center.
She is survived by her husband of 57 years, Raymond; a daughter, Jorie Schweizer Murphy of Pittsburgh; and a grandson.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10 a.m. Wednesday in St. Bernard's Church, 95 E. Corydon St. Prayers will be said at 9:30 in Koch Chatley Gaeto Funeral Home, 75 Kennedy St. Entombment will be in St. Bernard's Cemetery Mausoleum.
