The Erie Community College men's bowling team was eliminated by Nebraska, 4-1, in a best-of-seven losers' bracket match of the Intercollegiate Bowling Championships at the Cherry Bowl in Rockford, Ill.
Eariler Friday, the seventh-seeded Kats eliminated Nevada-Las Vegas, 4-0, and lost to Saginaw Valley State (Mich.), 4-3. All games in the double-elimination tournament are Baker games.
The No. 16 seed ECC women's team was eliminated by Kansas, 4-0, in the losers' bracket. The Kats lost to No. 1 seed Wichita State, 4-1, in the first round but stayed alive with a 4-2 win over Maryland-Eastern Shore.
WOMEN'S TENNIS: The University at Buffalo defeated Akron, 6-1, to finish the regular season with a 4-5 record in the Mid-American Conference, the program's best finish since joining the MAC in 1999.
SOFTBALL: St. Bonaventure dropped its first Atlantic 10 series of the season, falling to Massachusetts, 9-1 and 7-1. Kristin Brunetto (Depew) led Bona with four hits, contributing a pair of singles in each game. Anna Nagro (Holy Angels) had two singles and an RBI. . . . Buffalo State (24-8) swept Potsdam, taking the first game, 8-0, and the second 12-2. In the opener, the Bengals turned eight hits and five Potsdam errors into eight runs in the five-inning victory. In the nightcap, Laurie Hutten (Kenmore West) was a home run shy of the cycle, going 3 for 3 with an RBI and a run scored. . . . Winning pitcher Casey Mazurak (Dunkirk) drew a bases-loaded walk in the bottom of the sixth, which gave Fredonia State a 1-0 victory over Plattsburgh. Mazurak tossed a one-hitter for Fredonia.
WOMEN'S LACROSSE: Freshman Alana Chan scored the winning goal, then preserved the victory with a steal with 14 seconds left as Canisius held on for a 12-11 win over Le Moyne. A victory at Siena on Sunday will clinch a MAAC playoff spot for the Golden Griffins for the first time in program history. . . . Buffalo State fell to 7-3 after losing to Potsdam, 6-5. Leah Bernal scored two goals for the Bengals.
