The Rotary Club of Amherst South has raised $900 to provide long-term shelter for 10 people on the tsunami-ravaged coast of Indonesia.
The humanitarian aid is enclosed in a "shelter box," a durable and multi-functional shelter that comes with survival tools, 10 sleeping bags and a three-room 10-by-20-foot tent. The tools include water purification tablets and containers, cooking stove and utensils, flashlights and rain gear.
The kits allow families to remain together for months while awaiting permanent housing. The Rotary's shelter box is part of a 6,300-box shipment to serve 63,000 displaced people.
