A retirement party will be held tonight for Vincent Pupo, who stepped down last month as commander of the Erie County Sheriff's Department's Fire Investigation Unit.

Pupo, who had been wounded while serving with the Marines in Vietnam, had accompanied Sheriff's Deputy Robert S. Insalaco on Aug. 13, 1987, when Insalaco was shot and killed as they attempted to serve an arrest warrant on a North Collins man.

He also was part of a contingent, led by Sheriff Patrick M. Gallivan, that traveled to ground zero in the days following the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center in New York City.

The retirement party will begin at 6 p.m. in Woodlawn Volunteer Fire Hall, 3281 Lake Shore Road, Hamburg. Tickets can be purchased at the door for $20. For more information, call James O'Neill at 823-5257.
