Anna E. Adams, a lifelong Kenmore resident who was a secretary in the Kenmore-Town of Tonawanda School District, died Sunday in Kenmore Mercy Hospital, Town of Tonawanda, after a brief illness. She was 89.
Known as "Betty," Miss Adams worked as a secretary in the school district for 38 years, retiring in 1973. She was head secretary to the Kenmore West High School principal for 28 years.
Miss Adams was inducted into the Corridor of Honor at Kenmore West High School in 2001.
Early in her retirement, she was a volunteer at the Buffalo & Erie County Historical Society. She also volunteered for Ken-Ton Meals on Wheels and at Schofield Residence, where she worked in the gift shop for several years.
A member since 1967 of Abigail Fillmore Chapter, National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution, Miss Adams was a former regent, vice regent and treasurer. She received a Community Service Award from the organization in 1996.
She also was a member of Kenmore Presbyterian Church, its Hamilton Mission Club and the Churchillers. The church honored her in 1985 as its Woman of the Year.
A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Kenmore Presbyterian Church, 2771 Delaware Ave., Kenmore. Private burial will be in Forest Lawn.
