A Mass of Christian Burial for James J. Russell, a retired insurance salesman, will be offered at 10 a.m. Saturday in St. Lawrence Catholic Church, 1520 E. Delavan Ave., after prayers at 9:15 in Amigone Funeral Home, 569 Cleveland Drive, Cheektowaga. Burial will be in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, Cheektowaga.
Mr. Russell, of Cheektowaga, died Tuesday in Buffalo General Hospital after a lengthy illness. He was 77.
Born in Detroit, he moved to Buffalo as an infant with his family.
A Navy veteran, Mr. Russell sold insurance for more than 30 years and was briefly in the car rental business before retiring in 1990.
He was active at St. Lawrence Church, where he was a past Holy Name Society Man of the Year.
Survivors include his wife of 54 years, the former Rose Marie Skarzynski; three daughters, Roslyn Shadron and Diane Swiatek, both of Cheektowaga, and Susan Hulett of Overland Park, Kan.; two sons, Thomas of Akron and Daniel of Cheektowaga; four sisters, Mary Lou Aprile of Indian Rocks Beach, Fla., Marjorie Glen of Varysburg, Patricia Smith of Cheyenne, Wyo., and Kathleen Praudt of North Tonawanda; a brother, Gerald of Clarence; and eight grandchildren.
