The spring flushing of the city's water mains will begin this weekend, the Water Division of the Board of Public Utilities has announced.
Weather permitting, the board has scheduled flushing to begin at 9 p.m. Sunday on the far north side of Jamestown, in the vicinity of Lutheran Social Services and Jamestown Community College. Flushing of the entire system is expected to take two to three weeks.
Board spokeswoman Sue Jones said the procedure will be altered slightly this year, with the Village of Falconer, East Jamestown and Mason Industrial Park being flushed last instead of first.
Water Division employees will flush Jamestown's north side and the downtown business district first, then proceed to the west side of town and into West Ellicott and Celoron, which will affect Lakewood.
Residents are advised to stock a day's supply of water for drinking and cooking before the flushing begins in their immediate area.
